Track and Field Picks Up 3 SAC Awards

OKLAHOMA CITY – Langston University snared three of the Oklahoma Ford Dealers Sooner Athletic Conference track & field athlete of the week honors for April 17-23. 

The Lions hosted the Langston Lion Invitational over the weekend, when SAC men's runner of the week Malik Williams, men's field athlete of the week Kendall Caffey and women's field athlete of the week Chasity Veals raked in wins. Women's runner of the week Bonita Gray of Panhandle State rounded out this week's award recipients. 

Men's runner of the week: Malik Williams | Jr. | 

Malik Williams bolted to first-place finishes in the 100-meter dash and the 200 meters Saturday in the Langston Lion Invitational in Langston, Okla. Williams took the 100 with a time of 10.67 seconds and clocked the winning time of 21.95 seconds in the 200. Williams ran a time that rates on the A standard qualifying list in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational on March 24. The NAIA Championships take place May 24-26 in Marion, Ind. Williams scooped up his second weekly honor from the SAC this season.

Men's field athlete of the week: Kendall Caffey | So. | Allen, Texas

Kendall Caffey posted the top mark of 45 feet, 1¾ inches in the triple jump and the second best jump of 20 feet, 6½ inches in the long jump on Saturday at W.E. Anderson Stadium. Caffey holds a spot on the B standard qualifying list with his mark he had in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational.

Women's field athlete of the week: Chasity Veals | Jr. | Richardson, Texas 

Chasity Veals snagged victories in the long jump and the triple jump in the Langston Lion Invitational. Veals recorded a mark of 38 feet, 6 inches in the triple jump which would rank on the B standard national qualifying list. Veals already owns a spot on the A qualifying list in the triple jump with a mark she delivered in the Wichita State K.T. Woodman Invitational on April 7. Veals finished No. 1 in the long jump with her leap of 18 feet, 1½ inches. Veals accumulated her fifth consecutive SAC women's field athlete of the week nod.
