Lions Roar Past Texas College 53-34

LANGSTON – A 34-point second half explosion propelled the Langston Lion by the Texas College Steers 53-34 on Saturday night at W.E. Anderson Stadium.

Leading 39-34 at the 7:54 mark in the fourth, the Lions began to pull away after Steele Wasel hit Seth Maldonado for a 30-yard touchdown strike at the 5:35 mark. Texas College's attempt to rally ended at the Langston 23-yard line when running back Broderick Brown was stopped on fourth-and-eight.

The Lions put the game away when Qwontrel Walker tacked on a 24-yard touchdown run to put Langston up 53-34.

The victory pushes Langston to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Wasel finished the day 12-of-20 from 287 yards with two touchdowns on the night; Vera led all receivers with four receptions with 112 yards with one touchdown and Maldonado tallied 76 yards on three receptions with one score.

Charles Carter anchored the ground attack with 113 yards on 22 carries with one touchdown.

Defensively, Savella Greer finished with five tackles and one sack on the night. Mareese Graham tallied an interception in the first half, returning it 20 yards for a touchdown.

Langston (2-1, 1-1 SAC) heads to Arkansas Baptist on Saturday, Sept. 26. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Little Rock, Ark.
