Bobby Burns begins his first season as a member of the Langston University football staff; he will serve as a graduate assistant primarily coaching the running backs and receivers.

Prior to his arrival at LU, Burns worked at Mercer Island High School as the defensive backs coach. During his time there he coached the entire secondary; he was in charge of the video operations and the co-head strength and conditioning coach. He was a member of the coaching staff that turned around the program from a 2-7 season to a 5-6 season with a playoff appearance. From 2012-13, he coached at his High School alma mater Spanaway Lake High School in the same position; he was responsible for coaching the secondary.

Burns played collegiately at the University of Louisville from 2009-2010; he played in 23 games and started 16 of them.  He also achieved Big East Athletic Academic honors in back-to-back years. Before Louisville, Coach Burns played two seasons at Butte Community College for Jeff Jordan where he was a member of a team that went 12-0 record and achieved a Junior College National Championship. He finished with 20 tackles and one interception as a sophomore.

During his first collegiate game Burns recorded three interceptions, returning one for a score. The first-year coach won all three of his bowls game appearances which include the Beef ‘O’ Brady Bowl (2010), State Center Bowl (2008) and the Stockman’s Bank Bowl (2007).

Burns received his Bachelors of Arts in Justice Administration from Louisville in 2011; he and his girlfriend Ashley have one daughter, Audrey.
