Calvin Powell

Calvin Powell will enter his first on the Langston University staff and serve as Offensive Line Coach and Assistant Head Coach on Quinton Morgan’s staff.  This fall, Powell begins his 14th season of coaching and 11th on the college level. He is returning to the LU as he spent two seasons at Langston University as an offensive graduate assistant, running backs coach for one season and offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator for another, helping the Lions capture the 2011 Central States Football League Conference Champion. Those seasons he coached the school’s all-time leading rusher, Carlos Ross, as well as three 1st-team All-Conference selections on the offensive line.

No stranger to the Sooner Athletic Conference, Powell has spent the last four years at Lyon College, where he served as the program’s offensive line coach and academic coordinator. Powell coached six Sooner Athletic Conference offensive lines and helped raise the team G.P.A. from 2.3 to 2.6 while also having three Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athletes. Powell spent one season instructing the running backs and tight ends at Lyon while helping the Scots to a school-record number of wins and #1 rated passing efficiency in the conference.

Prior to Lyon College,  Powell spent two years helping start the Texas Wesleyan University program as Offensive and Recruiting Coordinator while instructing the quarterbacks and running backs. He's also served as an offensive graduate assistant at Temple University helping the Owls to a 10-4 record and an appearance in the inaugural American Conference Championship game, as well as the Marmot Boca Raton Bowl.

Prior to his season at Temple, Powell was the running backs coach and video coordinator at SUNY Maritime College in the Bronx, NY.  He also
logged three seasons in the high school ranks, two seasons at the Greenhill School in Addison, TX (offensive line coach and offensive coordinator) and another at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy in Austin, TX (offensive line coach and running game coordinator).

Powell holds a B.S. degree in Sports Management from Southwestern College and a M.Ed in Educational Leadership from Langston University.
