Langston Falls in OT to Texas College

LANGSTON – The Langston Lions took the Texas College Steers to overtime but ultimately fell short 91-83 to open season on Thursday night at the C.F. Gayles Field House.

Tied at 74-74 entering overtime, Texas College picked up back-to-back three pointers to move in front at 80-74. The Steers would go on to win 91-83 despite a herculean effort by the Lions to push it to overtime.

Trailing 74-69, Sam Battle Jr. picked up his fifth foul, leaving the Lions with only four players remaining with 2:05 remaining in the second half. Langston stood tall on defense, not allowing a single point the rest of the second half by Texas College and picked up free throws from Armani Allen and Kristian Baccus to tie it up at 74-74.

Allen led Langston in scoring with 27 points and LaCorian Ballard added 22. Baccus and Aren Thomas both finished in double digits with 13 points apiece and Kenneth Daughty III tallied a team-high 11 rebounds.

Langston (0-1) returns to the court on Nov. 12 to take part in the Tabor College Classic in Hillsboro, Kan. The next home game for the Lions is set for Nov. 18 versus John Brown University at 8 p.m.
