Lions Roar By OPSU 33-3 in Battle of the Bell

LANGSTON – The Langston Lions pushed their win streak to three games after dismantling the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies 33-3 in the Battle of the Bell on Saturday afternoon.

Tyler Travis got the ball rolling for the Lions, scoring on a nine-yard run at the 10:34 mark in the first quarter. The Aggies countered with a 36-yard field goal following a 77-yard kickoff return to the Langston 16-yard line.

That was the only score the Lions defense allowed the rest of the day.

D'Heaven Domena tacked on a nine-yard touchdown run to give Langston the 14-3 edge at the end of the first quarter.

The Langston defense managed to get in on the scoring, returning two touchdowns for interceptions in the second quarter. The first interception return came courtesy of Mydre Strother who intercepted OPSU's Brandon Stephens at the OPSU 43-yard line and raced his way to paydirt at the 11:44 mark.

The second interception came on the following offensive possession for OPSU. Facing a fourth-and-10 at the Langston 33-yard line, Stephens was picked off by Jalen Pelrean at the LU 15-yard line who returned it 85 yards for the touchdown.

Langston's final score took place in the fourth quarter after Torrence Bardell hit Janeal Langley for a 16-yard touchdown pass.

Bardell finished eight-of-19 for 150 yards with one touchdown, he also picked up 50 yards on eight carries. Travis finished with 45 yards on 12 carries and one score. Levon Williams led the aerial attack with two receptions for 61 yards on the day.

Damien Lowery anchored the defense with 11 tackles with five solo, four tackles for loss and one sack. In addition to Strother and Pelrean, Travis Martin also registered an interception.

Langston (3-2, 3-1) travels to Houston, Texas next weekend to face North American University. The Lions return to W.E. Anderson Stadium for homecoming on Saturday, October 21 at 2 p.m.
