Men's Basketball Knocks Off USAO 68-56

CHICKASHA – The No. 5 Langston University Lions returned to their winning ways on Thursday night, knocking off the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma 68-56 at Drover Fieldhouse.

Langston trailed 31-22 at halftime after shooting 28 percent (nine-of-32) from the field. The Lions roared back to life in the second half, outscoring USAO 46-25 to seal the victory and improve to 23-2 overall and 17-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings.

"We were lifeless in the first half, we had very little energy, played timid and USAO really executed their game plan," head coach Chris Wright noted. "The second half was completely different, we outscored them by 21 and actually looked like a good team."

AJ Rainey led Langston in scoring with 15, D'Monte Brown added 14, Anthony White chipped in 13 and Cortez Mosley finished with 12. Collectively, the Lions hit 39 percent (26-of-66) from the field and combined to hit 11-of-34 three-point attempts.

Thursday night's victory pushed Langston to the 23-win mark which is the highest win total since the 2016-17 season when the Lions finished the season at 24-11. Langston is currently atop the SAC standings at 17-2 with three regular season games left and in position to claim the first SAC men's basketball regular season championship in program history.

"Saturday will be extremely tough," Wright added. "We continue to play shorthanded and it's going to take a very good effort to go into Fort Worth and beat Texas Wesleyan."

Langston's (23-2, 17-2) matchup with Texas Wesleyan is set for Saturday, Feb. 11 in Fort Worth, Texas. Game time is set for 3:45 p.m.
