No. 5 Langston Defeats Southern Oregon, Advances to NAIA Second Round

LANGSTON – Four players scored in double figures as the No. 5 Langston Lions knocked off Southern Oregon in the NAIA Men's Basketball National Tournament First Round on Tuesday night.

Langston, leading by five at halftime, opened the second half on a 8-1 scoring run, pushing their lead to 45-33 at the 17:51 mark. Southern Oregon was unable to bridge the gap the rest of the way as the Lions advanced to the NAIA Men's Basketball National Tournament second round for the first time since the 2017-18 season.

Cortez Mosley led Langston in scoring with 16 points, AJ Rainey finished with 13, Tristan Harper added 11 and James Ellis chipped in 10.

Collectively, the Lions hit 50 percent (27-of-54) on the night and held Southern Oregon to 40 percent (22-of-54) shooting while forcing 17 turnovers.

Langston moves to 30-2 overall and advances to the NAIA Men's Basketball National Tournament second round where they'll face the Southwestern (Kan.). Game time is set for 7 p.m. inside the historic C.F. Gayles Field House.
