Langston Lions Fall to Wildcats 35-22

LANGSTON – Wrentie Martin passed for a season high 231 yards with three touchdowns but the Langston Lions fell short 35-22 to Louisiana Christian on Saturday night.

Langston led early following a 30-yard field goal by Octavio Resendiz that capped a 12-play, 51-yard drive at the 8:36 mark in the first quarter. The Wildcats countered with a three-yard and nine-yard touchdown runs by Devin Briscoe and Daylon Charles to lead 14-3 at the conclusion of the first quarter. Louisiana Christian tacked on one more score in the second to lead Langston 21-9 at halftime.

The Lions picked up steam in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late as Langston moved to 0-2 othe season and 0-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Martin managed to hit Levon Williams for a 50-yard and 21-yard touchdowns to trim the lead to 35-22 with 1:49 remaining.

Martin finished 17-of-26 for 231 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Bryon Hanspard led the ground attack with 34 yards on four carries and Williams led the aerial attack with six receptions for 93 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Travis Martin led Langston with eight total tackles including five solo. Jaylen Kincaid registered the lone turnover with one interception.

Langston (0-2, 0-1 SAC) travels to face Texas College next weekend in Tyler, Texas. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
