Lions Surge By Texas College 47-6

TYLER, Texas – Torrence Bardell led the way as the Langston University Lions returned to the win column, dispatching Texas College 47-6 at Tyler Rose Stadium on Saturday night.

Bardell completed 17 of 27 passes for 235 yards with three touchdown passes and picked up one touchdown on the ground.

The Lions struck first in the first quarter when Wrentie Martin hit Tyler Travis for a 71-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.

Langston turned it up a notch in the second quarter with three touchdowns and one safety. Emerson Price scored on a two-yard run, Bardell hooked up with Kevin Allen, Jr. for a 43-yard touchdown and James Grace picked up the safety on a sack of Angelo Ponds at the 4:04 mark in the second quarter. Bardell closed out the 23-point, second quarter with a nine-yard touchdown run.

Octavio Resendiz nailed a 37-yard field goal to push Langston's lead to 33-0 and Bardell followed with a 17-yard scoring strike to Allen, Jr. to surge ahead 40-0.

Levon Williams led all receivers with 86 yards on four receptions and Allen, Jr. was right behind him with six receptions for 83 yards and two touchdowns. The final score for the Lions came when Ivory Wilright IV hauled in an eight-yard touchdown pass from Bardell to cap a seven-play, 32-yard drive with 6:23 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Jaelyn Walker led Langston with six total tackles, one sack, one pass breakup and two quarterback hurries. Malcom Johnson and Mikele Nash both registered an interception on the night.

Langston (1-2, 1-1 SAC) travels to Waxahachie, Texas next Saturday to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
