Lady Lions Roar Past No. 17 MACU

OKLAHOMA CITY – Six players scored in double figures as the Langston University Lady Lions opened the 2024 slate with an 85-57 victory over No. 17 Mid-America Christian on Thursday night.

The Lady Lions trailed 20-14 after the opening quarter but turned the tide in the second quarter, outscoring the Evangels 27-11 and holding MACU to 26 percent (four-of-15) shooting to enter halftime in front 41-31. The third quarter was the same tale as the Lady Lions halted the Evangels offensive attack to 31 percent (four-of-13) and forced three turnovers.

The 85-57 victory pushes Langston's overall record to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. MACU drops to 9-2 overall and 3-2 in the SAC.

Kameron Shelley led the Lady Lions in scoring with 18 points, Mattie Boyd added 13 and Makayla Transou finished with 11. Jordynn Conner, Brittany Rivera and Koreea Kirksey also tallied 10 points apiece.

The Lady Lions (10-2, 5-1 SAC) host Southwestern Christian at home on Saturday, January 6. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
