Lady Lions Ground Southwestern Christian Eagles 64-52

LANGSTON – Diamond Richardson scored a team-high 14 points as the Langston Lady Lions knocked off Southwestern Christian 64-52 on Monday night at C.F. Gayles Field House.

The Lady Lions jumped out to an early advantage, leading 17-8 at the conclusion of the first quarter. Langston built their lead to as much as 22 points in the second half as they improved to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the SAC.

"I'm very happy to get the win, I always say it's difficult to win any basketball game," head coach Chris Vincent said. "Offensively, we didn't execute like we normally do but I thought Southwestern Christian did a good job of mixing up their defense and looks. It was probably the first team that did that to us so far, so it was a good learning experience from a leadership perspective."

In addition to Richardson, Mikayla Woods tallied double figures in rebounds with 12. Collectively, the Lady Lions hit 37 percent (25-of-68) from the field and finished 10-of-19 from the free throw line.

On the flipside, the Lady Lions held the Eagles to 37 percent (17-of-45) from the field and a two-of-14 mark from three-point range. Langston also outscored Southwestern Christian 27-9 in bench points, 38-26 in points in the paint and 17-8 in points off turnovers.

Langston (6-1, 2-1 SAC) travels to face Oklahoma City University on Thursday night, Nov. 21. Tip-off time is set for 6 p.m.
