Lady Lions Close Out Regular Season, Clinch 2nd Seed in SAC Tourney

CHICKASHA, Okla. – The Langston University Lady Lions fell short 83-73 in their regular season finale at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Saturday.

The Lady Lions trailed 61-40 entering the fourth quarter but mounted a furious comeback in the fourth, cutting the lead to 70-63 following a fastbreak bucket from Kamesha Moore. Langston was unable to get any closer as the loss drops their record to 22-6 overall and 17-5 in conference play.

Makayla Transou poured in a team-high 20 points, Moore along with Koreea Kirksey tallied 13 points apiece. Kameron Shelley rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points.

Collectively, the Lady Lions hit 33 percent (27-of-80) for the game and finished 11-of-14 at the free throw line. USAO hit 41 percent (24-of-58) overall on the night.

With the regular season now concluded, Langston (22-6) turns their attention to the postseason as they have clinched the second seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament scheduled to start on Thursday, Feb. 29.

By finishing in the top four of the final regular season SAC standings, the Lady Lions host seventh-seeded Southwestern Christian in the opening round of the SAC Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 6 p.m.

Ticketing information will be released tomorrow, Feb. 25 at noon.
