No. 1 seed Langston Routs Bruins 79-40 in NAIA National Tournament Opening Round

LANGSTON – The No. 1 seed Langston (Okla.) lived up to their billing on Friday night, dispatching No. 16 seed Bellevue (Neb.) 79-40 in the NAIA National Tournament First Round inside C.F. Gayles Field House.

Hosting the NAIA National Tournament first round for the second straight year, the Lions roared their way to a 41-14 halftime advantage. In the opening half the Lions stifled the Bruins offense, holding their offense attack to two fields total in the first half.

Langston's (31-1) lead rose to as much as 49 points in the second half as the Lions advance to the second round for the second straight year with the 79-40 victory over Bellevue (Neb.).

Anthony Roy led all scorers with 23 points on the night, Cortez Mosley added 17 and D'Monte Brown finished with 12. Collectively, the Lions hit 44 percent (28-of-63) from the field and finished 18-of-22 from the free throw line.

Defensively, Langston held the Bruins to 27 percent (10-of-36) overall shooting and two-of-15 from three-point range. The Lions outscored the Bruins 17-6 in points off turnovers, 15-1 in second chance points and 46-10 in the points in the paint.

Langston (31-1) advances and will face No. 9 seed Ave Maria (Fla.) in the NAIA National Tournament second round Saturday night at 6 p.m. back in the historic C.F. Gayles Field House.
