Lady Lions Conclude Season in NAIA National Tournament First Round

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – It came down to the wire in the Langston University Lady Lions opening round matchup in the NAIA Women's Basketball National Tournament with Spring Arbor (Mich.) edging out a 81-78 victory on Friday evening.

Tied at 78-78 following a three-pointer by Koreea Kirksey, Spring Arbor's Alana Nelson pushed the Cougars in front 80-78 with a bucket at the 10 second mark. On Langston's ensuing offensive possession, Kamesha Moore was charged with an offensive foul with three seconds remaining in the game.

Langston extended the game by sending Nelson to the free throw line where she converted one-of-two free throw tries, giving the Lady Lions one last chance to tie with 2.2 seconds left. Brittany Rivera got a last second shot off at midcourt that fell short, sealing the 81-78 victory for the Cougars.

The Lady Lions conclude their season at 24-8 overall. Langston returned to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time since the 2020-21 season and finished with over 20 wins for the first time since the 2014-15 season.

Kameron Shelley finished with 20 points on the night, Hailey Jordan added 17 along with Moore adding 10.
