Volleyball Picks Up First Win at Philander Smith Classic

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Langston University Lady Lions picked up their first win of the season on day two of the Philander Smith Classic.

The Lady Lions closed out tournament play with a 3-1 victory over Harris-Stowe State on Saturday, August 31. The victory was the first of the season for the Lady Lions and head coach Jazmine Washington.

Harris-Stowe jumped out to an early lead, following a 25-23 set one victory before the Lady Lions countered with victories in sets two and three by counts of 25-17 and 25-15.

In the final frame Langston closed out the win with a 20-25 set victory.

Lianna Payton led Langston in kills with seven, McKenzie Solider and Alycia Shaw both tied with six kills apiece. Megan Anderson registered 24 assists and Leah McCall and Shaw tied for the team lead in digs with 11 apiece.

In the day two opener, the Lady Lions fell 3-1 to Jarvis Christian College. Anderson led the team in kills and assists with six and 16 respectively. McCall led the way in digs with 19.

Langston (1-7) begins Sooner Athletic Conference play on Friday at Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell, Okla. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
