No. 11 Langston Lady Lions Pick Up Pair of Wins

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The No. 11 ranked Langston University Lady Lions returned home with a pair of victories after knocking off Loyola-New Orleans 69-64 and Cottey College 67-50 on back-to-back days at the Haskell Invitational.

In game one on Friday evening, the Lady Lions led 55-52 at the 4:27 mark in the fourth quarter when a bucket by Layla Curry and three-pointer from D'Auzhanay Harden stretched Langston's advantage to 60-52 with 2:43 remaining. Loyola-New Orleans managed to trim the lead to four points but never got closer the rest of the way.

Areyanna Hunter scored a team-high 24 points and Alyssa Parmer added 13. Overall, Langston knocked down 35 percent (23-of-65) and finished 16-of-20 from free throw range.

On day two, the Lady Lions outscored Cottey College 17-10 in the second quarter and 20-12 in the fourth quarter to coast to a 67-50 victory over the Comets.

Amaris Timmons led Langston in scoring with 12 points and Alexandria Jefferson added 11.

Collectively, the Lady Lions hit 38 percent (26-67) overall and finished 11-of-18 from free throw range.

Langston (2-0) heads to Baton Rouge, La. on Thursday, October 30th to face Louisianna State University in an exhibition matchup. The first home game for the Lady Lions takes place on Saturday, November 29th versus Haskell Indian Nations University.
