No. 5 Langston Knocks Off USAO 78-70

CHICKASHA – Four players scored in double figures as the No. 5 Langston University Lions knocked off the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma 78-70 on Thursday night at Drover Fieldhouse.

Tied at 48-48, the Lions used a pivotal 13-4 scoring run to move in front 61-52 at the 7:39 mark. The Lions pushed their advantage to 12 points following a three-pointer from Orlando Thomas and free throws from Treshawn Cody with 5:25 remaining.

Langston improves to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

"I thought USAO really out toughed us in the first half. I was really pleased that we were able to overcome some adversity and find a way to win our fourth conference road game in a row," head coach Chris Wright noted. "We are looking forward to getting full strength for the first time all year in the coming weeks. We have a lot of room for improvement, and I'm excited to see how we continue to grow."

Thursday night's victory also marked another milestone for head coach Chris Wright as he became the fifth head coach in program history to notch 100 wins as head coach at Langston University. Currently, Wright holds a 100-14 mark leading the Lions program and a cumulative win-loss record of 311-114.

Omar Henry led the Lions in 16 points on the night, Thomas added 14 and Robert Alexander finished with 12. Tajahri Cave rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.

Collectively, Langston shot 52 percent (25-of-48) overall and finished 23-of-35 from the free throw line.

Langston (8-1, 4-0 SAC) squares off with Mid-America Christian on Saturday, Dec. 6 in a neutral site matchup at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. Game time is slated for 12:30 p.m.
