OKLAHOMA CITY - For the first time in program history, Langston University claimed the top seed in the 2025 Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament presented by the Oklahoma Ford Dealers. The conference tournament begins tonight, Feb. 27, at four campus sites around the league.
The Lions are ranked 17th in the latest NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll. They finished the regular season with an overall record of 26-2 and a league mark of 22-2. Langston was picked in the third slot in the SAC Coaches Preseason Poll.
Wayland Baptist will enter the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed, Mid-America Christian will be the No. 3 seed, and conference newcomer College of the Ozarks will enter the postseason as the No. 4 seed.
The Lions will welcome No. 8 seed Oklahoma City to the C.F. Gayles Field House on Thursday, with the tip set for 6 p.m. The Stars wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 10-18 and a 10-14 mark in conference action. The Lions won both regular-season meetings against Oklahoma City by scores of 55-51 and 80-49.
The 20th-ranked Flying Queens will play host to the No. 7 seed Golden Eagles of John Brown at the Hutcherson Center, with the game set to begin at 6 p.m. Wayland Baptist finished the regular season with an overall record of 24-3 and a conference record of 21-3. John Brown enters the tournament with an overall mark of 13-15 and an 11-13 record in conference play. The Flying Queens won both regular-season contests by scores of 78-65 and 79-61.
Mid-America Christian, which is ranked 24th in the latest poll, will welcome No. 6 seed Science & Arts to the Gaulke Activity Center Thursday evening for a 6 p.m. tip. The Evangels finished the regular season campaign with an overall record of 23-5 and completed league action with a mark of 19-5. The Drovers join the tournament field with an overall record of 16-12 and a league record of 14-10. Mid-America Christian won both regular season matchups by scores of 77-64 and 75-60.
The final contest in the quarterfinals will see the Bobcats play host to No. 5 seed Texas Wesleyan at the Keeter Center in Point Lookout, Mo., with the start time set for 6 p.m. College of the Ozarks enters the tournament with an overall record of 19-9 and a league mark of 17-7. The Rams join the field with an overall record of 19-9 and a 15-9 league mark. The two teams split their regular season matchups, with the Bobcats winning at home 79-61 while the Rams won on their home court by a score of 68-61.
The winners of the four quarterfinal contests will travel to Langston, Okla., on Monday, March 3, to play in the conference semifinals, with the championship game set for Tuesday, March 4, at 5:30 p.m.
