Volleyball Surges Past JBU Golden Eagles

LANGSTON – For the first time in eight matchups the Langston Lady Lions prevailed over the John Brown University Golden Eagles 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 16-25, 25-16, 15-10) on Saturday afternoon inside C.F. Gayles Field House.

Langston came out strong in the opening set, building a 17-9 advantage before sealing the 25-20 opening set victory on a kill by Ayanna Moore. JBU appeared to turn the tide with 25-20 and 25-16 victories in sets two and three to go up 2-1 over Langston.

In the fourth set the Lady Lions roared to a 19-8 lead following a block by Moore and never looked back, taking the fourth set by a final count of 25-16.

The fifth and final frame had both squads knotted up at 5-5 when Langston began to pull away with back-to-back kills from Ia'neiah Spears and Teia Woodson and an attack error by error to put Langston up 8-5. The Golden Eagles trimmed the lead to 8-6 but the Lady Lions once again answered the call with five straight set points to surge in front at 13-6.

Leading 13-9 the Lady Lions closed out the set with kills from Meagan Anderson and Teia Woodson to move Langston to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Woodson led the way with 15 kills; Anderson chipped in 35 assists and Leah McCall tallied 17 digs. Woodson also finished with one solo block and three assisted blocks.

Langston (7-7, 3-2 SAC) is back in action on Friday, September 19th versus Oklahoma Panhandle State at home. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
