No. 9 Langston Devours Pioneers, Advance to SAC Title Game

OKLAHOMA CITY – Orlando Thomas scored a game-high 16 points as the No. 9 Langston University Lions rolled the Wayland Baptist Pioneers 75-53 on Friday at Abe Lemons Arena in the semifinal round of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament.

The Lion's patented defense was on display again, holding the Pioneers offensive attack to 22 percent (five-of-22) overall as Langston entered halftime in front 24-14. The ten-point margin is all Langston needed as they led by as much as 29 in the second half in the 75-53 victory.

Trey Clarke added 13, Antonio Lewis finished with 12 and Omar Henry chipped in 11. On the afternoon, the Lions hit 47 percent (26-of-55) overall and held Wayland Baptist to 35 percent (17-of-48) from the field.

The Lions will be aiming for their fourth-straight SAC Tournament Championship game under head coach Chris Wright. Langston won the SAC Tournament Championship 80-68 over Wayland Baptist in 2022-23, 55-44 over Mid-America Christian in 2023-24 and 65-62 over Nelson University in 2024-25.

Langston improves to 24-6 overall and advances to the SAC Tournament Championship tomorrow, Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. versus Oklahoma City University. The SAC Tournament is being held at Abe Lemons Arena on the campus of Oklahoma City University.
