Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Kyle Taylor - Langston Athletic Communications

No. 4 seed Langston Rolls Eastern Oregon, Advances to Round of 16

LANGSTON - Three players scored in double figures for the Langston University Lions, propelling the fourth-seeded Lions past No. 12 seed Eastern Oregon 86-59 in the NAIA Men's Basketball Second Round presented by Ballogy on Saturday night at C.F. Gayles Field House.

The Lions came out firing, shooting 50 percent (12-of-24) in the first half, building a 35-25 halftime lead over the Mountaineers. In the second half, Langston roared their way to a 14-4 scoring run, expanding their advantage 49-29 at the 15:36 mark.

Eastern Oregon never got closer than 19 points the rest of the way as the Lions roared to a 86-59 final victory. The Mountaineers conclude their season at 19-13 overall.

"I'm really proud of our guys today, to respond, I thought we were pretty average yesterday," fourth-year head coach Chris Wright said. "I didn't think we did a good job of following the gameplan versus Bethel, so as a coaching staff we really challenged our guys this morning. We came out and I thought this was the hardest we played all year. Eastern Oregon is extremely difficult to guard, I thought we did a great job of defending them and forcing them into a lot of tough possessions."

Langston (26-7) punched their ticket to the NAIA Men's Basketball Tournament Round of 16 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. for the fourth straight year under Wright. Wright notched his fifth career victory in the NAIA Men's Basketball National Tournament Second Round and holds a career 5-1 mark in the second round.

Orlando Thomas led Langston in scoring with 23 points, Cameron McCoy added 18 and Omar Henry chipped in 12 on the night. Collectively, Langston hit 55 percent (31-of-56) from the field and 19-of–25 from the free throw line. Defensively, the Lions held Eastern Oregon to 33 percent (21-of-63) overall and six-of-26 from three-point range.

The No. 4 seed Langston Lions (26-7) will face No. 1 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan (30-3) next week on Friday, March 20 in the NAIA Men's Basketball Round of 16 presented by Ballogy. Game time is set for 5 p.m. inside Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
