SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Langston University men's and women's track and field teams opened outdoor track season with a bang at the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational.
On the men's side, Mitchell Williams finished in eighth in the 100-meters with a final time of 10.59. Kamarion Norton and Gabriel Rhone-Dunn took part in the 400-meters, and both placed in the top 10 with times of 49.08 and 49.57 to finish fifth and seventh place respectively.
Ian Lofton placed sixth in the 110-hurdles with a time of 15.31 and ninth in the 400-hurdles, clocking 59.60. Lofton also placed fifth in the triple jump with a high mark of 13.34-meters.
CaVelle Jones rounded out the top 10 finishers on the men's side with a ninth-place finish in the javelin with a mark of 41.99-meters.
Chloe Threatt, Zoey Battles (sixth), Mikayla Murphy (eighth) and Ky'Leah Hill (tenth) all place top 10 in the 100-meters with final times of 11.82, 12.25, 12.30 and 12.39 respectively. Threatt placed first overall and qualified 'B' standard for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships.
Hill also placed ninth in the 200-meters with a time of 25.80 and 10th in the long jump with a mark of 4.92-meters; Tori Echols came in eighth in the 400-meters at 59.35 to close out the top ten individual finishers for the women's side.
The quartet of Battles, Hill, Threatt and Rhianna Hill also placed second in the 4X100 relay and qualified 'B' standard for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships.
The Lions and Lady Lions are set to return to the track on April 3rd at the Friends University Spring Open in Wichita, Kan.
