Kevin Herod was introduced as the head women's basketball coach for the Langston University Lady Lions in May 2022. Herod comes to Langston University after serving eight seasons as head coach at Talladega College.
During his time at Talladega College, Herod posted a win-loss mark of 171-68 in eight seasons. The win-loss mark were the most win of any HBCU women's basketball head coach over that time span.Â
The 2021-2022 season, the Lady Tornadoes finished the overall season with a 21-12 record and receiving a bid to the NAIA National Tournament. Defeated #13 ranked Providence in the first round.
In the 2020-21 season, the Lady Tornadoes finished the year at 16-3 (COVID year) and 5-1 in the GCAC. For the second year in a row they were named GCAC Regular Season Conference Champions. The Lady Tornadoes were ranked as high as 14th in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll throughout the season, which marked the sixth consecutive year the Lady Tornadoes were ranked since the 2015-16 season.

In the 2019-20 season, the Lady Tornadoes posted an outstanding regular-season as they went 28-5. Talladega went undefeated in the GCAC regular season (14-0) claiming the GCAC Regular Season Championship and nationally ranked #10 in the country. Herod was also named to the 2019-2020 Achieving Coaching Excellence College Basketball Coaching Honor Roll.

In the 2018-19 season, Herod led the Lady Tornadoes to an overall record of 28-6 and 12-2 in the GCAC. Talladega defeated three top 25 opponents during the season while being ranked as high as 11th themselves. The Lady Tornadoes defeated No. 13 Lindsey Wilson College, 76-68, at home on Nov. 17, 2018, before knocking No. 21 nationally ranked Bethel University with a 72-66 win on Nov. 24, 2018.

The 2017-18 season consisted of the TC being ranked as high as 25th in the country. The Lady Tornadoes wrapped up the season with an 18-14 record and made it to the semi-finals of the GCAC Tournament.

In the 2016-17 season, Talladega posted an overall record of 22-9. The Lady Tornadoes made history as they claimed the programs first ever GCAC Tournament Championship. Talladega was also for the second consecutive year the GCAC Regular Season Conference Champions. Herod was also named GCAC Coach of the Year.

For the 2015-2016 season, the Lady Tornadoes finished 23-6 overall including the GCAC Regular Season Conference Champion. Talladega also entered the national poll, being ranked as high as 14th. Herod was also named GCAC Coach of the Year.

Talladega finished the 2014-15 season with a 15-13 season record, 9-6 in the GCAC. The season included a 70-66 win over NCAA Division I Arkansas Pine Bluff on the road.

Herod is a 2011 graduate of Talladega College, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Management. He went on to obtain his Master's degree in Business Administration at Salem International University in 2011. He is a 17-year veteran of collegiate coaching, spending the last eight years leading the Lady Tornadoes' women’s basketball program. He entered the Talladega College women’s basketball program in 2009 as an assistant coach. During the 2009-10 season the Lady Tornadoes were the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Division I National Champions. He also helped led the 2013-14 squad to become the GCAC Regular Season Champions. While the assistant coach his teams went 119-66 boasting a .643-win percentage.

In addition to improving the product on the playing floor, Herod has also held his student-athletes to a high standard in the classroom. He has produced 12 GCAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll award recipients. Entering this season his teams have had a 96 percent graduation rate.
