Larry Harrington tossed five touchdown passes on homecoming as the No. 22 Langston Lions held off Texas Wesleyan 42-31 Saturday afternoon at W.E. Anderson Stadium.
The Rams came out firing and led the Lions 17-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Langston countered with 28 straight points.
The first touchdown came when Harrington hit
John Louis for a 34-yard touchdown to pull within 17-14 at the 8:28 mark in the second quarter. Harrington picked up another touchdown in the same quarter, this time hitting
Travis Romar for a 17-yard touchdown to give Langston the 21-17 halftime edge.
Harrington tacked on two more touchdowns, a three-yard score to
Terrick Robinson and a 76-yard bomb to
John Louis to give Langston a 35-17 advantage at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
Following a kickoff return for a touchdown by the Rams' Ty Bobb, the Lions answered the call once more. This time Harrington hit
Kevin Allen for a 29-yard touchdown to increase their lead for good at 42-24.
Harrington finished the day 12-for-19 for 312 yards and five touchdowns. Louis led the receivers with 110 yards on two receptions with two touchdowns.
Ger'Kerry Jackson anchored the ground attack with 80 yards on 25 carries with one touchdown.
Malcolm Johnson led the defense with 10 solo tackles and two assisted tackles.
Devin Dourisseau finished with seven tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss.
Langston (6-0, 6-0 SAC) travels to face 9th ranked Ottawa-Arizona in a battle of unbeatens at the top of the SAC standings next Saturday, Oct. 23. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. CST.
