Women's Basketball Holds Off Southwestern Christian 73-68

LANGSTON – Asheika Alexander tallied 22 points to lead the Langston University Lady Lions past Southwestern Christian 73-68 on Thursday night inside the C.F. Gayle's Field House.

Alexander's 22 points marks the ninth team this season the senior has racked up 20 or more points in a game. Langston pushed their win streak to four games, improving to 14-3 overall and 9-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference to keep them tied with Wayland Baptist for first place with nine conference wins.

Leading 52-48 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions pushed their advantage to as much as 11 points following a bucket in transition by Taliyah Harris to make it 62-51 at the 4:45 mark. The Eagles managed to fight their way back within one point when Grace Williams answered with a quick layup inside off an assist by Harris with 15 seconds left.

Southwestern Christian's Abbey Phibbs missed on the ensuing possession which eventually led to the 72-68 victory by the Lady Lions. Harris managed to tally 17 points and Elan Wali chipped in 10 on the night.

Langston (14-3, 9-2 SAC) plays at Mid-America Christian in Oklahoma City, Okla. on Saturday, Jan. 15. Opening tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
