Lady Lions Clinch Home Opener 74-72 over Pilots

LANGSTON – It came down to the wire, but the Langston University Lady Lions picked up the win in their home opener, outlasting LSU-Shreveport 74-72 on Saturday at C.F. Gayles Field House.

Leading 73-69 with 8.5 seconds remaining, LSUS' Derrica Gilbert pulled the Pilots within one after draining a three-pointer with 2.5 seconds to go. Langston's Hailey Jordan answered on the ensuing offensive possession, hitting one-of-two free throw attempts to give Langston a 74-72 advantage.

On Jordan's free throw miss, the Pilots' Kiara Collins got off a last ditch three-pointer that sailed out of bounds and preserved the 74-72 victory for the Lady Lions.

The matchup with the Pilots is the first matchup since the 2017-18 season. Langston leads the all-time series 10 wins to eight losses. Langston improved to 2-1 on the year and were led in scoring by Taliyah Harris who dropped in 17 points. Jordan finished with 16 points alongside eight rebounds and Kameron Shelley chipped in 10.

Langston (2-1) travels to face Avila University on Monday, Nov. 7 in Kansas City, Mo. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
