Lady Lions Open Season with Sweep

LANGSTON - The Langston Lady Lions opened the season with back-to-back win over Sterling College in head coach Darnell Walker's debut on Wednesday afternoon at TG Green Park. 

In the opener the Lady Lions trailed 7-5 entering the bottom of the seventh. Langston trimmed the lead when Kalynn Gray scored off an error to make it 7-6 with no outs. Midori Williams answered the call with a two-RBI triple to bring home Madison Slater and Celia Bigger to seal the 8-7 walk-off victory.

Shadie Davis finished one-for-three with one homerun and three RBIs, Williams also finished with three RBIs after going one-for-four at the plate. Celia Bigger tallied two hits with two RBIs on the day.

McKenzie Connor picked up the win in relief, tossing three innings and allowing four runs on four hits.

Langston picked up the doubleheader win with a 2-0 victory over Sterling behind a stellar display on the diamond by Jordan Wilson. The freshman pitcher toss five scoreless innings, allowing six hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Lady Lions led early after Shadie Davis hit an RBI single that scored Gracelyn Rosales in the first inning. Langston picked up a second run in the fourth when Peyton Lea scored on an RBI single by Connor.

Langston (2-0) travels to face Southwestern College on Friday, Feb. 11 versus Southwestern College. First game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
