No. 5 Langston Knocks Off Trailblazers 95-53

LANGSTON – Five players scored in double figures as the No. 5 Langston University Lions dismantled the University of North Texas at Dallas Trailblazers 95-53 on Thursday evening at C.F. Gayles Field House.

The Lions started strong in the first half, hitting 68 percent (17-of-25) from the field, and holding the Trailblazers to 48 percent (12-of-25) as they built a 45-30 halftime lead. Langston's defense improved in the second half, holding UNTD to 15 percent (three-of-20) overall and one-of-eight from three-point range as they outscored the Trailblazers 50-23, avenging an earlier 69-65 loss on January 14th.

"This game meant a lot to us, UNT-Dallas gave us our first loss of the season and it hasn't sat real well with us since then," head coach Chris Wright said. "I would be lying if I said this game hasn't been circled on the calendar for the past month."

Cortez Mosley led Langston with 21 points, Tristan Harper added 19 and Anthony White finished with 16 points. AJ Rainey and D'Monte Brown also tallied double figures with 15 and 10 respectively.

Following the game, the Langston University men's basketball held a ceremonial net cutting to celebrate the Lions' first SAC regular season conference title.

"To get to cut down the nets in front of our home crowd is special," Wright noted. "Especially in front of the crowd we had tonight, it was an electric atmosphere."

Langston improved to 25-2 overall which is the highest win total since the 2015-16 season when the Lions finished the season at 25-7 overall.

Langston (25-2, 19-2 SAC) closes out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 18 at home. The Lions host Southwestern Assemblies of God at 3:45 p.m.
