Football Edged In OT vs MidAmerica Nazarene

Box Score LANGSTON - It came down to the wire but the Langston University Lions fell short 24-21 in overtime to MidAmerica Nazarene in the 2023 season opener at W.E. Anderson Stadium. 

In the overtime period the Pioneers were able to convert on a 19-yard field goal by Trevor Highley, capping a 10-play, 35 yard scoring drive that started at the Langston 25-yard line. 

On the ensuing possession, the Lions made their way to MNU 10-yard line but faced a fourth-and-goal decision. Langston's Octavio Resendiz lined up for a 34-yard field goal attempt which was subsequently blocked, sealing the zero week victory for the Pioneers.

Tyler Travis led Langston on the ground with 84 yards on 19 carries and Ivory Wilright IV led the aerial attack with three receptions for 41 yards and one touchdown. In his first start under center, Wrentie Martin finished nine-of-23 for 104 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Martin also picked up 41 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Defensively, James Grace led the way with eight total tackles include seven solo with one sack.

Langston (0-1) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 16 at home versus Louisiana Christian. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at W.E. Anderson Stadium.
