No. 1 Langston Outlasts OPSU 64-61

GOODWELL, Okla. – Four points down the stretch from Bryce Monroe proved vital as the No. 1 Langston Lions outlasted Oklahoma Panhandle State 64-61 on Saturday evening.

Trailing 61-60, Monroe hit a fadeaway jumper to pull the Lions in front 62-61 with 12 seconds remaining.

On the ensuing offensive possession, Monroe picked off OPSU's pass and headed to the free throw line where he knocked in both free throws to push Langston's lead to 64-61.

The Aggies were able to get off a potential game-tying three-pointer from Amaree Brown which bounced off the front of the rim, sealing the victory for the Lions.

Langston improves to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Monroe finished with 13 points overall, Darrius Hughes added 16 and Mario McKinney chipped in 15 on the night. Collectively, the Lions hit 40 percent (20-of-50) overall and finished 21-of-23 from the free throw line.

Langston (4-1, 1-1 SAC) hosts Southwestern Christian on Monday night at historic C.F. Gayles Field House. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
