No. 4 seed Langston Surges Past Tigers, Advance to Round of 16

LANGSTON – Four players scored in double figures as the No. 4 seed Langston Lady Lions outlasted No. 5 seed Dakota Wesleyan 79-68 to advance to the NAIA Women's Basketball National Tournament Round of 16 on Sunday afternoon inside C.F. Gayles Field House.

Trailing 39-36 at halftime, Langton used a pivotal third quarter to surge ahead by outscoring the Tigers 22-14 including an eight-of-nine mark at the free throw line and forcing seven turnovers. The Lady Lions entered the final frame in front 58-53 and held serve the rest of the way.

The closest the Tigers trimmed the lead was two at 64-62 with four minutes remaining but the Koreea Kirksey answered the call with a three-pointer and Jordan Brown followed with back-to-back free throws to put Langston in front for good 69-62. Langston closed the game out on a 6-0 scoring to seal the 79-68 victory and send the Lady Lions to the NAIA Women's Basketball National Tournament Round of 16 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mikayla Woods led the way with 20 points on the day and Jordynn Conner added 18. Brown and Kirksey both finished with 15 and 11 points respectively.

Langston (31-2) advances to the Round of 16 for the first time since the 2014-15 season and first time since the NAIA Women's Basketball National Tournament bracket expanded from 32 teams to 64 teams in 2022. The Lady Lions face No. 1 seed Dordt University on Thursday, March 20 at 6 p.m.
