National Tournament Preview: LU Lions vs Georgetown

LANGSTON – The No. 5 Langston University men's basketball team continues their march to the NAIA National Championship today, March 14 in the Round of 16 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas, City, Mo.. Here's a quick preview and rundown of information for Lions fans to answer the most frequently asked questions leading up to the game.

The Matchup:

The No. 2 seed Langston Lions (31-2) advanced to the NAIA Men's Basketball National Tournament Round of 16 after defeating Southwestern (Kan.) 87-65 on Wednesday, March 8. They will face No. 3 seed Georgetown (Ky.) (26-6) in the 2023 NAIA Men's Basketball Round of 16 presented by Ballogy at 1 p.m. inside the historic Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

About the Tigers:

Georgetown (Ky.) enters the third round matchup at 28-5 overall after defeated Lourdes 67-58 and Indiana Wesleyan 75-74 to open the NAIA Men's Basketball National Tournament first and second rounds. The Tigers are based out of Georgetown, Ky. and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament by winning the Mid-South regular season title.

Offensively, Georgetown (Ky.) boasts four players averaging double-figures Jake Ohmer (16.4 ppg), Cam Brooks-Harris (11.6 ppg), Tae Dozier (10.0 ppg) and Kyran Jones (10.0 ppg).

Chris Briggs is in his 12th year leading the Georgetown (Ky.) Tigers.

About the Lions:

Langston advances to the third round for the first time since the 2016-17 season and first time under head coach Chris Wright. The Lions boast a record of 31-2 overall and 20-2 mark in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Langston qualified for the NAIA National Tournament by winning the SAC regular season title and the conference tournament championship.

Offensively, the Lions are led in scoring by Tristan Harper (15.3 ppg), AJ Rainey (13.6 ppg), D'Monte Brown (12.2 ppg) and Cortez Mosley (10.8 ppg)

Chris Wright is in his first year as the head coach of the Langston University Lions.

The No. 2 seed Langston Lions (31-2) tip-off today, Tuesday, March 14 at 1 p.m. CST against No. 3 seed Georgetown (Ky.); should the Lions advance they will play tomorrow at 5 p.m. CT.

Q. Where is the tournament being held?

The 2023 NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship tournament will be held at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. beginning with the third round on Monday, March 13. The 2023 NAIA Men's Basketball First and Second Rounds presented by Ballogy are held at campus sites throughout the country.

Tickets for the tournament are $25 per day for adults (13+), $12 per day for NAIA Students w/ NAIA Student ID (available at box office only), $10 per day for high school students with student ID (available at box office only) $6 per day for students (ages 5-12) and free for kids ages 4 and under.

Single-day reserved seats are available at $35 per day for adults (13+), $10 per day for student (ages 5-12) and free for kids ages 4 and under.

Single-day courtside seats are available for $75 per day, per seat.
