LANGSTON – Langston University Head Men's Basketball Coach Sam Kohnke has finalized his coaching staff ahead of the upcoming 2026-2027 season with the appointments of Jon Warren, Quentre Roberts, Mikey Malone III, Dametrius Walker, Eric Harris, Sr. and Deuce Hardison.

"More importantly, they are loyal, hardworking and fully committed to pouring into our players and building this program the right way. I feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside such an outstanding group of me."
Jon Warren – Associate Head Coach
Jon Warren returns to Langston University and will be serving as Associate Head Coach. Warren is entering his fifth season on staff, and first as Associate Head Coach. Working his first 2 seasons as an Assistant Coach, and his last 2 as the Recruiting Coordinator, Warren has helped the program go a combined 121-21 and be ranked in the top 3 in the country in each season.
During the 2025-2026 season, Warren helped lead the Lions to a 29-8 overall record, and another appearance in the NAIA National Championship Game.
The Lions started the 2024-2025 season ranked No.1 in the country despite returning zero rotation players from the previous season. Langston finished the season at 26-8, capturing their third consecutive Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship and advanced to the NAIA Sweet 16 where they were beat by eventual national champion College of Idaho.
The 2023-2024 season saw the Lions post a 35-2 record capped off by a trip to the NAIA National Championship Game. Langston spent much of the season ranked No.2 in the national polls. For the second consecutive season, the Lions ran away with the Sooner Athletic Conference title by going 23-1 and winning the SAC Conference Tournament.
After inheriting a program that went 1-27 in 2022, the Lions completed the single biggest turnaround in the history of college basketball. Langston finished the season at 31-3 overall and climbed to No. 3 in the national polls. The program became the first ever HBCU to win the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season crown along with capturing the SAC Conference Tournament Championship. The Lions advanced to the NAIA Sweet 16 in Kansas City before falling to Georgetown College.
Prior to Langston, Warren spent two seasons on staff at Talladega College under Coach Chris Wright. The program went a combined 57-10, capped off by an appearance in the 2022 NAIA National Championship game that saw the Tornadoes fall to conference foe Loyola University New Orleans. Only two HBCU's have appeared in the NAIA National Title game since 1987, and Warren has been a member of both of those staffs.
Quentre Roberts – Assistant Coach/Player Development
Quentre Roberts begins his first season as an Assistant Coach with the Langston University men's basketball program in 2026. Roberts arrives at Langston after spending the 2025-26 season as an assistant coach at Oklahoma City University, where he helped guide the Stars to the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship and a berth in the NAIA National Tournament.
Prior to Oklahoma City University, Roberts coached alongside Sam Kohnke at Central Baptist College, helping lead the Mustangs to regular-season and conference tournament championships, a NAIA National Tournament semifinal appearance, a 28-7 overall record, and a perfect 14-0 home record. He also served as the head coach of the junior varsity team, playing an integral role in player development and program success.
Roberts began his coaching career as a student assistant at Central Baptist College and served as the head boys basketball coach at Oberlin High School, where he gained valuable experience in player development, practice planning, and program leadership.
A former collegiate standout, Roberts was a member of three championship teams and made two appearances in the NAIA National Tournament during his playing career. His championship experience as both a player and coach provide a strong foundation as he mentors and develops student-athletes.
Roberts earned Dean's List honors while completing his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Central Baptist College. He also holds an associate's degree in general studies from Bossier Parish Community College.
A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Roberts brings a passion for player development, championship culture, and servant leadership to Langston University men's basketball.
Mikey Malone III – Assistant Coach/Director of Basketball Operations
Mikey Malone III joined the Langston University Men's Basketball staff in June of 2026 as Director of Basketball Operations/Assistant Coach. Before coming to Langston, Malone served as an Assistant Coach at Oklahoma City University during the 2025-2026 season, helping the team earn a 21-11 record, 2026 Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Championship, and a NAIA National Tournament Appearance.
Prior to going to OCU, Malone spent 5 years working for the University of North Texas Men's Basketball program from 2020-2025, as a Graduate Assistant, Head Student Manager, and Student Manager. During his time with UNT, he helped the team earn an NCAA National Tournament Round of 32 Appearance (2021), 2 Conference USA Championships (2021, 2022), NIT Championship (2023), and a NIT Final Four Appearance (2025).
At UNT, Malone received his Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Event, and Sport Management in 2024 and his Master of Business Administration in Sports Entertainment Management in 2026. He also received the 2024 Texas Association of Basketball Coaches D1 Student Assistant of the Year.
A native of Murphy, Texas, Malone has spent over 10 years working for the Dallas Mavericks in various departments and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Dametrius Walker – Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator
Dametrius Walker will begin his second season as Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Langston. The Lions went 29-8 overall last season reaching the NAIA National Championship Game. Walker helped develop two All-Region players & five SAC All-Conference 2026 Selections. One being Orlando Thomas earning an NBA Summer League spot with the Detroit Pistons.
Before Langston, Coach Walker served as Interim Head Coach and Associate Head Coach for 2 seasons under Head Coach Ryan Miley. Walker started as a Graduate Assistant at Newman University before beginning two stints as the top assistant of various programs. One being the Fort Scott Greyhounds in KJCCC during the 2020-22 seasons, later returning to Ohio at Hocking College, as an Associate Head Coach (2022 to 2024) in Nelsonville, OH.
During his time with Ryan Miley and as active Head Coach, Walker helped coach two JUCO All-Americans and multiple OCCAC All-Conference players along with coaching the program's first ever Division 1 signee.in program. Walker also helped Hocking to its first ever trip to the NJCAA National Tournament, as they were crowned Region 12 tournament champs during the 2023-24 campaign. The Hawks won 2 OCCAC Conference titles with an overall record of 78-18.
Walker began his coaching career with two seasons as a top assistant at KJCCC Fort Scott Community College 2020-2022 (Alma mater), helping the 2020-2021 Greyhounds cap a historical season as they were Conference Co-Champions, and ranked high as 11th nationally.
Walker earned a bachelor's degree in Arts and Humanity from Newman University in Wichita, Kansas where he played his final two collegiate seasons. As a senior he helped his team to a 20-9 overall record and grabbed All-Conference honors. He also played two years at Fort Scott Community College.
Deuce Hardison – Graduate Assistant
Deuce Hardison is in his first season as a Graduate Assistant for Langston Men's Basketball. Recently, he graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor's in general business.
Deuce most recent coaching position was at Legacy Christian Academy in Frisco, TX, where he coached 8th grade boys and assisted with overall player development. He has also spent 4 years as the head coach for BYG Elite's AAU program based out of DFW, where he coached ages 15-17.
The Plano, TX native graduated from Plano East Senior High School.
Eric Harris, Sr. – Character Coach
Eric Harris, Sr. returns to the Langston University men's basketball staff as the Lions Character Coach. Harris, Sr. Eric Harris is a native of Chicago, Illinois. Harris played for the Lions during the 1987-1989 seasons after starting his career at the University of Kansas.
He was the first player in Langston University Basketball history to be voted as an NAIA 1st team All American. Harris graduated from Langston and has also been inducted into the LU Athletics Hall of Fame.
