Football Unveils 2025 Schedule, Faces Grambling State in Season Opener

LANGSTON – Langston University head football coach Quinton Morgan unveiled the upcoming 2025 football schedule, which features four home games at W.E. Anderson Stadium, five road contests and one neutral site matchup.

The season kicks off with a non-conference matchup with Grambling State University in the Shreveport Kickoff Classic at Independence Stadium at 7 p.m. on Aug. 30 in Shreveport, La.

GSU and LU have played each other six times since 1977 with the last meeting taking place in 2008 when Grambling State won 13-2.

"We're thrilled to open our season with the Shreveport Kickoff Classic against a outstanding program like Langston University," said GSU Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Trayvean D. Scott. "This matchup not only showcases two storied institutions but also brings our passionate fan base together in a city with deep cultural and athletic ties to Grambling State. It's more than a game—it's a celebration of tradition, excellence, and community."

"This will surely be an epic battle of the big cats! I am excited for our football team to play in the same location as the Independence Bowl," said Langton Director of Athletics Donnita Drain-Rogers. "Our Lions as well as the Langston University Marching Pride Band will have the opportunity to showcase their talents on one of the biggest HBCU stages of the year.

The W.E. Anderson Stadium home opener for Langston is slated for September 6th versus Louisiana Christian. The Lions close out the month of September with two road contests at UT-Rio Grande Valley on September 13th and Texas College on September 20th.

October features two home matchups and two road contests, the first with Ottawa-Arizona on October 4th and an October 11th homecoming matchup with Arkansas Baptist. The Lions hit the road to face Wayland Baptist on October 18th and Texas Wesleyan on October 25th.

Langston hits the road to begin November, facing Nelson University on November 8th before concluding the regular season at home in the Battle of the Bell versus Oklahoma Panhandle State on November 15th.

Ticketing information will be released in the coming weeks. For more information contact the Langston University Athletic Department at 405-466-3262.
